Hello and thank you to the amazing knitters who came by to say hello, fondle, and sometimes purchase, a hank or ball or two of SIOz yarn to knit this summer. The dust is slowly settling here at SIOz Central.

Thank you also to Jonelle and Jonette at SWTC for making the SWTC selection what it is — fabulous! The hanks of Jazz and cones of String Me Along are loaded onto the webshop again. And the Tofutsies selection was nice and varied, a colour for every knitter. The Tofutsies is loaded online as well in all its glory.

Inventory must be taken. The webshop must be restocked. The orders must be mailed. And the deadlines must be met. Usual stuff.

Here’s a piccie of the display at the Adelaide Craft and Quilt Fair last weekend.

Stranded In Oz at Adelaide C & Q Fair Nov

If you missed out on a colour or type of yarn, please feel free to inquire via email or ring 08 8341 0213.

Here are some of the yarns that are on the next dye runs:

Shadow Kin Ltd Edition Sock (thank you for your enthusiasm) Interested in urban fantasy fiction? Check out the book, Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott.

Shadow Kin by MJ Scott

Yes, the colourway Shadow Kin is the cover colours — and darn it — I didn’t stash a hank of the first run. A few hanks of Sunmage (far right) are on the webshop now. Mmmmm. Premium sock yarn!

Shadow Kin Ltd Ed Sock

Banjara Quilt –4ply

Around the Campfire – 4ply

Banjara Quilt and Around the Campfire

I’ve painted both Banjara and Campfire a lot this past winter. These colours hadn’t been in my repertoire for 2 years or so — on a whim I took them out of retirement. Thank you for the thumbs up for both.

Surprise hit of the show? Night at Timberlake (hank on the far left of photo below:

Merino 3 from Stranded In Oz

For those of you who are new to SIOz yarns, I tend to name my yarn colours after places. Timberlake is the name of the place where I spent a few summers at camp (a peculiar American tradition where parents send their kids off to be eaten by mozzies and served revolting food). Camp Timberlake will forever be etched into my memory as the place where I lived with a fair dinkum dunny for 2 weeks. Apologies, but I may have written about this previously. The scars run deep.

I plan the colours, then paint them based on the formula I’ve worked out for the colourway. Other times, I just go with whatever strikes my fancy — usually when I am using up dye at the end of a day — to not waste dye and water. Those I call wild mixes and they’re def. not repeatable colourways.

Knit, spin, and crochet in good health and happiness.

Back to the workpiles. Melissa

Club Packs: All packs were shipped as normal last week. If you have any questions regarding Stranded In Oz Fibre or Knitting Clubs, please feel free to email or ring us.

Due to the nature of my design and dye schedules, I’m not always able to re-knit the socks in the colour for the pack. This design was in the works long before the dyelots went up. The colour for October is a sizzling hot Fresh Lemongrass — a bright Spring green blend. Mmmmmm.

For the Fibre Club — it is pin drafted Rambouillet — so soft and sproingy, it’s a pleasure to spin. This month it’s Pretty Good Green.

Thank you to everyone who came by today at the Port. We’re open again tomorrow from 9-5!

There’s been a run on the banana palm silk — good thing the weather should be nice and warm for some wild colours midweek. I’ll post those as soon as possible.

The sock yarn has been depleted — yay, so the new lots will have to go up this week as well. Thank you to all you fabulous sock knitters! There’s still plenty of Tofutsies in a rainbow of colours — it’s the hand-paints that are gone — There’s one 100gm lot of Friar Tuck in Tofutsies left, as well as a couple semi-solids – red, aqua, and a dark green.

And the cut silk velvet shawls and scarves are all but gone — there’s one big silk velvet shawl in Phantom left (which I secretly covet) — there’s a photo in an old posting. I’ll be painting more velvet as the weather gets cooler. If you’d like to knit something to go with a silk scarf, feel free to contact me with your colour order. I’m happy to coordinate fibres with the scarves and shawls.

Thanks especially to Heather — lovely to meet you — and to the intrepid Melbournian who went away with my favourite premium merino 8ply in Queen Anne’s Garden. I’m having trouble sourcing that yarn and am looking for a suitable replacement. There’s a kilo left which I plan to dye in the next week — so keep a look out for those. 50gms is enough to make a fab little beanie or a pair of hand cosies.

See you at the Port – m

Like a dj, I’m thrilled when I get a request. It gets my colour creation brain into high gear. This week — the sock yarn arrived as it was TOLD to do. I’ve got a limited supply of Brown Sheep’s Wildefoot (undyed) which will be heading for the dyetable this week.

Blues and Greens are first up people, so email me with your requests and I will paint away. There’s a new batch of the original Sherwood Forest. Love the gloves dreadlord vellan is making for her pa! Why didn’t I dye some for me?

As promised, the El Grande stash sale is on this Sunday.

In the bins:

Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece
Berroco Zen and Suede
misc Elann.com sock yarns — solids
Philosopher’s Wool Shawl pack in naturals
Cherry Tree Hill handpainted treasures — sock yarns!
***Picks merino 2 and 4 ply yarns. Don’t miss these!
ALL the Jo Sharp mohair still in the bags – in lovely colours
Misc. lace wools — a nice pile there…

Every ball or hank is stored wrapped, in pristine condition. Anything funky (luxury yarn oddballs) will be in the rummage basket…

Let’s face it — the stash is a fine collection, but it has to GO. So don’t miss the fun. I will be putting new stuff out each week of August, so come on by for a coffee, a rummage around, and a chat about your knitting. What’s on your needles?

Keep Knitting to stay warm!
mel, still stranded
